The October 2015 Retail Sales report shows retail sales increased 0.1% for the month as auto sales slid by -0.5%. Without autos & parts sales, retail sales increased 0.2%. Gasoline sales declined by -0.9%. Gasoline sales have plunged by 20.1% from a year ago. Declining gasoline sales are not responsible for such weak consumer demand, for without gas stations considered, retail sales only rose by 0.1%.
The Consumer Price Index decreased by -0.1% for August on energy price declines Gasoline alone dropped -4.1% for the month. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.1% for the month. From a year ago overall CPI has increased 0.2%, which is very low, yet without energy and food considered, prices have increased 1.8%.
The Consumer Price Index increased 0.1% for July, which is very mild. This is in spite of a 0.9% increase in gasoline prices. Energy overall only increased 0.1%. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.1% for the month even with a 0.4% shelter cost increase. From a year ago overall inflation has increased 0.2%, which is very low.
The Consumer Price Index increased 0.3% for June, as gasoline increased by 3.4%. Eggs are the new gold as prices had a one month spike not seen since 1973. Energy overall was up 1.7%. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.2% for the month on soaring shelter costs. From a year ago overall inflation has increased 0.1%.
The Consumer Price Index increased 0.4% for May, as gasoline increases by 10.4%. Energy overall was up 4.3%. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.1% for the month and was the smallest increase since last December. Believe it or not, from a year ago overall inflation is unchanged.
April Retail Sales has assuredly disappointed Wall Street and is just one report in a series indicating the U.S. economy has gone into standby mode. Retail sales had no growth and even excluding gasoline sales only grew 0.1%. Autos & parts dropped -0.4% for the month. Without autos & parts sales, April retail sales increased 0.1%. Gasoline sales declined by -0.7%.
The Consumer Price Index increased 0.2% for March, the same rate as February, as overall energy costs continued to rise. Gasoline prices alone increased 3.9%. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.2% for the month. From a year ago overall inflation declined -0.1% and this is due to the previous plunge in gasoline prices.
The March 2015 Retail Sales report shows retail sales increased 0.9% for the month as auto sales had a major comeback increase of 2.8%. Without autos & parts sales, March retail sales increased 0.4%. Gasoline sales declined by -0.6%. Building materials had a good month with a 2.1% sales increase. Retail sales have now increased 1.3% from a year ago.
The Consumer Price Index increased 0.2% for February as gasoline prices rose. It looks like the party is over for cheap gas and once again inflation is back on the rise. Gasoline prices increased 2.4%. Inflation without food or energy prices considered increased 0.2% for the month.
The Consumer Price Indexdropped -07% for January, the largest monthly drop since December 2008 and the steepest monthly decline in a series of seven. Gasoline prices plummeted -18.7%, the steepest since December 2008. The drop in gas overwhelmed the Consumer Price Index and was the cause of the overall drop.
