Case-Shiller Indices Show Home Prices Clearly Outpace Inflation

The May 2015 S&P Case Shiller home price index shows a seasonally adjusted 4.9% price increase from a year ago for the 20 metropolitan housing markets and a 4.7% yearly price increase in the top 10 housing markets.  The year over year change is pretty much the same as April using the seasonally adjusted data.

Case-Shiller Shows Home Prices Still on the Rise and Not Affordable

The December 2014 S&P Case Shiller home price index shows a seasonally adjusted 4.5% price increase from a year ago for the 20 metropolitan housing markets and a 4.3% yearly price increase in the top 10 housing markets.  There are two ways to look at the never ending increasing home prices.

The September 2013 S&P Case Shiller home price index shows a seasonally adjusted 13.3% price increase from a year ago for both the 20 metropolitan housing markets and the top 10 housing markets.  America is now only 20% away from the peak of the housing price bubble and the two indexes are comparable to May 2004 levels

Home Ownership Rates Are Bad News for America

Home ownership is at the lowest rate since the 4th quarter of 1995.  The Census released their quarterly housing vacancies and home ownership report.  The seasonally adjusted homeownership rate is 65.1%.  Many in the press tried to claim homeownership is increasing by quoting the not seasonally adjusted home ownership rate of 65.3%, which gives an uptick in people owning homes in America from the 2nd quarter of 2013.  The reality is, not so.  The great ownership society went bankrupt.

Case-Shiller Housing Price Index Shows Bubble Like Annual Gains Again

The August 2013 S&P Case Shiller home price index shows a seasonally adjusted 12.8% price increase from a year ago for over 20 metropolitan housing markets and a 12.7% change for the top 10 housing markets from a year ago.  Once again price increases are on high for homes.

Case-Shiller Shows Home Prices Cooled Slightly in June 2013

The June 2013 S&P Case Shiller home price index shows a 12.1% price increase from a year ago for over 20 metropolitan housing markets and a 11.9% change for the top 10 housing markets from June 2012.  This is a slightly lower annual increase than last month  The national quarterly index increased 10.1% for the year.
